Asthma Education
In home educational and teaching visits
are provided by a nurse, who is a certified asthma
educator, to provided education and teaching,
and to answer questions
about a patient’s asthma symptoms. Our
asthma educator works with Maine Health’s
AH! Asthma Health Program (www.mainehealth.org/mh_body.cfm?id=260)
to assist you in preventing symptom flair-ups,
reducing the need for doctor’s visits and
use of the emergency room, improving symptom
control, school, daycare or work attendance and
general overall improvement in quality of life.
- Respiratory Assessment
- Asthma education and educational materials
- Instruction on the use of peak flow meter
- Teaching about quick relief medication and
daily controller medications
- Teaching for the proper administration
of medications
- Symptoms recognition and management
- Creating a written asthma plan, including
dealing with emergencies
- Record keeping for medications
and symptoms
- Recognizing and reducing environmental
triggers
