Bereavement Services
Bereavement Services are a component of Hospice
services, provided by the CHANS Home Health Care
Hospice social work staff, with the aim of supporting
the family and care givers in their bereavement
and grief. Services continue with the family for
up to 13 months after the death of the patient.
Bereavement services are further supported through
age-appropriate pre- and post-bereavement support
groups for the patient, family and care givers
offered through Hospice
Volunteers of Mid Coast Maine.
Bereavement services may include:
- individual and family counseling
- grief support groups (general and specific)
for all age groups
- family and care giver support visits
- telephone support line
- scheduled mailings for educational or informational
purposes
- an annual memorial service
- spiritual and pastoral counseling
- referral to community resources
