Hospice nurses provide care and comfort for patients in the last stages of life. |
Nursing Services
Under the direction of the primary physician,
registered nurses coordinate all services and
visit the home to do physical assessment, teaching,
management of symptoms, and pain control. They
are available on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week.
- supporting the patient and family through
the transition from hospital to home
- teaching the patient more about his/her illness
or condition
- assessing medication side-effects and compliance
- providing wound and ostomy care
- helping the patient to use pain management
techniques
- assessing patient and family issues related
to the patient’s condition
- providing emotional support for the patient
and family
- providing information about the death and
dying process
- instructing the family in patient care with
respect to medications and nutrition
- listening to the concerns of the patient
and/or family as they experience end of life
- teaching stress reduction and relaxation
techniques
- consulting with the patient’s physician
