Overseeing the
medical component of Hospice Care,
Carl DeMars, MD, Hospice Medical Director,
is in daily contact with Hospice staff
providing education and consultation.
Doctor DeMars has a medical practice
in Bath, Maine, and is also a licensed,
non-practicing pharmacist. As the
CHANS Hospice Medical Director, he
does not take the place of the patient’s
primary care physician, but is, instead,
available for consultation and collaboration,
as needed, to provide expertise in
pain and symptom management in end-of-life
care. As an active participant in
the Interdisciplinary Group, Doctor
DeMars reviews the patient’s
medications and plan of care with
the Interdisciplinary Group every
14 days. He is also a frequent presenter
of Hospice education topics to area
health care providers.
