Pastoral Care
Our resident Hospice chaplain is available to provide
supportive services to augment visits and care provided
by the patient’s own clergy.
While respecting
the faith systems of all, the chaplain nurtures
the well-being of Hospice clients, primary caregivers,
families and volunteer professional caregivers
through compassionate pastoral ministry, providing
an appropriate liaison with community spiritual
leaders, and offering consultation, educational
resources and training in areas of spiritual well-being.
The chaplain is here to listen to the patient’s
and family’s stories, their hurts, concerns,
and joys, believing that there is great healing
in being heard. The chaplain is available to assist
the patient and family in exploring and validating
the patient’s and family’s beliefs
and values to foster and nourish spiritual well-being.
It is not the chaplains’ objective to change
or challenge the patient’s or family’s
spiritual beliefs and values.
The chaplain is available to pray, read scripture,
and provide pastoral counseling with the patient
and family. The chaplain’s desire is to
support the patient and family in making, or moving
through difficult decisions, and to help them
to better cope with the challenges of end of life.
The chaplain is honored to support and comfort
the patient and family in this time of grief and
loss.
