What Skilled Care Provides

CHANS mental health nurses assist with mental health education, monitoring and support.

Mental Health Nursing Services

Mental Health Nurses are available to patients with known psychiatric disorders, as well as to patients who are struggling with emotional issues because of or in addition to their medical problems. Members of the mental health team work closely with community health care providers to enhance the patient’s ability to be maintained at home. Our mental health nurses are experienced clinicians with special training and/or credentials. The staff also has expertise in recognizing and managing the complex interactions between medical and emotional problems.

Our mental health nursing staff can assist the patient with:
  • assessing patient and family issues
  • learning about mental illness and medication
  • assessing medication side effects and complications
  • coordinating treatment resources
  • encouraging compliance with treatment
  • stress management, relaxation, coping skills, and communication
  • supporting the patient and family through the transition from hospital to home
  • coping with emotional aspects of a medical illness
